Species: Ostodes adjunctus (Mousson, 1869)

Distribution:Tutuila.
Natural Range:Samoa
Status:Endemic
Habitat:On the ground in forest areas with heavy tree cover.
Adult Size:Height, 4-7 mm; width, 6-9 mm.
Identification:Only two species of Ostodes are found on Tutuila: Ostodes adjunctus and Ostodes strigatus. Adult shells of Ostodes adjunctus are much smaller than those of Ostodes strigatus. Generally, only O. adjunctus occurs in the eastern part of the island, with O. strigatus in the western portion.

Species: Ostodes strigatus (Gould, 1847)

Distribution:Tutuila.
Natural Range:Samoa.
Status:Endemic.
Habitat:On the ground in forest areas with heavy tree cover.
Adult Size:Height, 7-11 mm; width, 9-12 mm.
Identification:Adult shells of Ostodes strigatus are much larger as well as taller in proportion to their width than those of Ostodes adjunctus, the only other species of Ostodes found on Tutuila.
Remarks:Listed as a candidate for endangered/threatened status by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1994.
